Maureen Digan: Miracle for Beatification

1981

Maureen Digan suffered from a severe and medically incurable form of lymphedema identified as Milroy's disease. She had undergone more than fifty operations, including the amputation of her right leg. On March 28, 1981, she prayed at the tomb of Sister Faustina in Poland. The chronic swelling in her remaining affected leg disappeared. The case was examined medically and ecclesiastically and was accepted by the Catholic Church as a miracle attributed to Faustina's intercession. This was the miracle associated with Faustina's beatification on April 18, 1993.

Father Ronald Pytel: Miracle for Canonization

1995

Father Ronald Pytel, a priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, suffered from a serious and permanent heart condition. On October 5, 1995, during a prayer service at the Baltimore archdiocesan Shrine of The Divine Mercy, he prayed for healing through the intercession of Blessed Faustina and venerated her relic. Subsequent medical examination found that his heart condition had healed. On December 20, 1999, Pope John Paul II ordered publication of the decree recognizing the healing as a miracle. This was the officially recognized miracle that cleared the way for her canonization on April 30, 2000.

About Miracle Documentation

The recognized healings of Maureen Digan and Father Ronald Pytel have a distinct status because they were formally examined and accepted in Faustina's beatification and canonization causes. Personal conversion testimonies, while spiritually meaningful, are distinct from medically and canonically investigated miracles.
